Congratulations to Jenny! She completed her 365 this week! I've really enjoyed following jaebn's project and I've loved so many of her photos. She brings such a unique style and surreal edge to her photography, especially in her portraits of her daughters. She uses backgrounds so effectively, sometimes the ways that she's placed her little girls in big, natural settings have given me chills. Her photos effectively portray many emotions: joy, loneliness, melancholy- and I've been impressed how she's captured such expressive moments. I've also really enjoyed reading her descriptions, they're beautifully written and filled with honesty and humor.
Here is jaebn's finisher interview with some of her favorite photos mixed in:
What inspired you to begin your 365 Project?
A few of my Flickr contacts were doing 365 projects, and it intrigued me. I wanted to be a better photographer, and I thought if daily practice for an entire year couldn't help me, nothing could.
How would you describe your photography in just a few words?
Two little girls in natural light. :)
What surprised you the most about doing the 365 project?
I thought it would be harder. After the first month, it became habit, and it was all down hill from there.
What did you learn during the course of your project?
I learned how to get the most out of my camera and which settings and effects I like best. I also learned a lot about Photoshop, textures, and my favorite techniques in post processing.
Do you have an interesting story about taking one of your 365 photos that you would like to share?
I lost my wedding ring while shooting Day 70:
On Day 231:
I walked around barefoot for half an hour before realizing that the ground was full of bees living in tunnels. I am allergic to bee stings, but I had no idea bees lived underground, so I wasn't careful at all.
Both stories had happy endings.
What are your future photography plans?
Don't laugh, but my long-term plan is to go pro. I'm saving up for a DSLR so I can be a family and children's photographer. Part of that plan involves another 365 project to help me get to know the new camera when it comes.
Finally, here are a couple of my favorites from Jenny's stream and a slideshow of her entire project.
Woo Hoo. Congratulations to ProphecyBlur!!! He finished his project this past friday. Yay!!!
Looking through his project you will notice his great eye for detail! His work also included a wonderful series of architectural shots, reflections, long exposures, minimalist shots, and many b&w images.
Here are a couple of my personal favs :)
In 2009 his girlfriend gifted him a photography lesson and well.. the rest is history! His final photo is featured below, along with his answers to our questions!
1.) What inspired you to begin your 365 Project? I found myself constantly worrying about ‘What Camera’ and ‘What Lens’ I needed to be a better photographer. Which I felt seemed to be missing the point somewhat, so I decided to sell off what little gear I had and pick up a Canon Powershot S90 and find out what kind of photographer I would become after 365 days.
2.) How would you describe your photography in just a few words? Hard to say, it has certainly changed a lot over the past year, I would say that my passion is for Urban Photography. I have deliberately tried to keep my images varied over the past year, so I think now that my project is over I will start to find out what my photography really is.
3.) What surprised you the most about doing the 365 project? Both how much, and how little I enjoyed the project at times. I have swung from being a ‘Project 365’ evangelist, to wondering why I was stupid enough to ever start this $%$%^”£%£ Project!
4.) What did you learn during the course of your project? I’ve learnt to play with my photography. Often a result of the frustration of having to take a photo, has led me to take images I would never have considered before. From intentional camera movement, to more abstract shots of every day objects and places. I feel like my photographic eye has forever changed, and there are a world of photos I will take in my future that I would otherwise have missed.
5.) Do you have an interesting story about taking one of your 365 photos that you would like to share? My favourite story as such was Day 116 where I stumbled across a sand castle on a wall outside Canary Wharf Tube Station in London. I have no idea how or why it was there in London financial district, bit it was a moment of I would have missed had I not been doing my project.
6.) What are your future photography plans? I want to find my style now the project is over, and focus my efforts on getting some images in competitions, magazines or galleries. I really want my photography to be more than a hobby, albeit I never expect to make any real money from it!
And below we have featured a few of his favorites. And in his own words, he describes why they were special to him.
Day 53: Never Walk Alone
I love this image, I was so lucky that I managed to capture both of the people walking in step in the dead centre of the bridge. I felt that this captured nicely the feel of the old London docks, that have now been morphed into a major financial hub.
Day 178: Rain at Sea
This is my personal favourite ‘Intentional Camera Movement’ image, taken from our hotel balcony with the rain tipping down. With a little flick up as the photo was being taken allowed for that almost painted feel to the final image.
Day 297: Winters Coming
This is just a photo I would have never taken a year ago, and has been inspired by some of the other images I’ve seen on the 365 Community.

The quality and variety of shots were so good again this week that it was very difficult choosing three. If you like any of the ones chosen, please be sure to go and visit their streams and leave a comment.
A lot of choices for this week's POTW selection, which means a whole lot of great talent! If you like these, be sure to visit the artist's photostream; you be glad you did.
There were so many fabulous photos this week. Here are just 4 picks from the many nominations. And autumn is in the air.. might have to do a special blog post of all those gorgeous fall colors!
Have some favs from the week... don't forget to nominate them in the discussion thread! ENJOY everyone.
Congratulations to Attila who just finished his second 365 project with this photo:
Here are some of his personal favorite photos from his project and his 365 interview including some admin faves:
I like this because it was the first time I managed to get good detail on something as small as a fly. As far as I remember it was just cropped a little bit.
This was really hard to get. Shot through the fence at the race using a very old consumer level (read: slooooow) tele zoom lens. And the cars were insanely fast and close.
I just LOVED Bangkok! This is an example of how I tend to over-process things. This shot was a complete coincidence too: I didn't look through the viewfinder because I didn't want the person to pose or be unnatural. I love just shooting without over analysing or planning too much!
What inspired you to begin your 365 Project?
I did my first one just because I wanted to get good use out of my newly purchased DSLR and learn new techniques. Once I finished it, I just kept going and now I'm about to finish the second one. I just love browsing through the 365 Community photos and find inspiration there.
How would you describe your photography in just a few words?
Overprocessed, underwhelming but fun! ;-) Sometimes it's part of my work as a graphic designer but mostly I'm trying to play with it and not get too close to "stock photography" territory.
What surprised you the most about doing the 365 project?
Probably the fact that I didn't stop after the first one! I loved using my flickr 365 sets as reference to see what I was doing that day or where I was. Even if it's a boring shot of something around the house, it helps to to retrace my steps and figure out what I did that day. It's like my "backup memory"...
What did you learn during the course of your project?
That it doesn't matter what kind of camera you have. Even a blurry low quality photo can me a better reminder of a certain day or moment than any "professional photo".
Do you have an interesting story about taking one of your 365 photos that you would like to share?
I looked through my set and can't think of many stories about taking the photo! But I realised that maybe that describes my photography really well. It's very quick and spontaneous! I don't do setups or anything too complicated. I did a photo shoot for a product (didn't make it into the set because it was pre-release at the time) where the light setup turned out to be a waste of time because it looked best without any lighting whatsoever! I guess that's also something I learned during the project: scale back and work with less...
What are your future photography plans?
I think I'm happy with my entry level DSLR for now and I'll keep using that if I need it for work but I might switch my 365 to the iPhone.
I recently got hooked on an app called instagram. It's fun to use and it's really "instant".
By the way, I'm looking for other 365ers on there!! If you want to add me, my username is attilaacs. I'm always trying to find people on there to follow because I don't know many photo-crazy people with iPhones here.
As for another 365: I'm thinking about doing a 270 to bring it up to 1000 "photos of the day". Not sure if I'll do a full 365...
Congratulations again to Attila! His set has lots of creative photos and concepts and it's well worth a visit!
Another great week of photos as some folks move closer to the end of their projects. As always it was tough to pick only three.
You know the drill: if you like any of those chosen this week, be sure to visit the photographers stream and leave a comment, they will be happy you did.
Congratulations to Anna for finishing her 365 project with this playful and sweet kitten picture!
We also want to wish her a happy birthday and best of luck as she starts another 365! Anna's project Anna kindly answered our finisher interview questions and shared three of her favorite photos with us. Below are also an admin fave and a photo from one of her memorable (and scary) 365 days.
What inspired me to begin my 365: I'd seen 365 projects around on Flickr, but most of the one's I'd seen had been self portrait 365s & I knew that this was something I just couldn't do. I have issues about photos of myself, something I'm working on getting over, but a selfie 365 is just a step too far for me still. Maybe sometime I'll feel up to it. But then I got a copy of the book Photojojo, and reading that inspired me to begin a general 365 on my birthday in 2009. I have included a few selfies in my 365, but mostly they are pictures of the world about me. I usually take about 50 photos a day, and I either select the one I like the best or I select the one that seems to best represent that day. Sometimes it's really hard to choose, and I have a set of 365 alternates for days when I pretty much had to flip a coin to pick that day's photo!
How I would describe my photography in just a few words: Slowly improving :-) I think I have quite a good eye when it comes to framing a shot, but my technical knowledge is still patchy. As a result of my 365 I got a DSLR last Christmas, a Nikon D40, and I have been learning more by using it, but I still find myself sometimes with a clear photo idea in mind, but without the skill to get there. I'd like to work on that.
What surprised me most about doing the 365 project: How rewarding it is - my 365 has been such a valuable part of my life. Here I am a year later and I've got a record of the past year, something that stops the year from just melting into the past mush of all the other years. I can look over it & see where I've been, read about what I was doing. I've never managed to keep a journal or a blog before, whenever I've tried it's always petered out because I've psyched myself out thinking "why bother? who cares? what's the point?". But my 365 never went down that path because it feeds into so many different areas of my life. My family & friends live all over the world, and by seeing my daily photos they can keep up with how I'm doing. My father has been known to ring me on the phone if I haven't uploaded any photos for a while! And I've met so many cool people here on Flickr as a result of my 365, that has been so important to me and my one regret is that I haven't been participating online much recently.
What did I learn during the course of the project: So much! I learned how to stop overexposing all my photos. I learned that although I can't keep a blog to save my life I can write pretty well given a nice blank picture description field to fill. And I've learned that I really miss participating in the 365 community - there have been times during this 365 when I've participated & times when I haven't and I've found the times when I have participated far more rewarding. So my goal for my next 365 is to be far more participatory.
Do I have an interesting story about taking one of the 365 photos: I'll say! There was a day when my 365 directly caused me meet a charming pizza eating dachshund and to hurt my shoulder rather badly (I ended up needing rotator cuff surgery). It's a long story so I'll just post the link to the picture, it's all there in the description & the first comment:
What are my future photography plans: Well, tomorrow is my birthday & the first day on my second 365. It's going to be a general 365 again, but this time I'm going to try to participate more, both in the community and with my contacts. Also I am fairly certain that I will get to unwrap a telephoto lens for my D40 tomorrow morning, so I'm hoping I can learn to use a variety of lenses - most of the time I just have my trusty prime lens with me, but it would be good to get used to changing lenses more often. And I want to continue working on the self-portrait thing, I would like to become more comfortable with them.
There were quite a few great nominations this week and I had to carefully weigh my selection of just three for the week. It is great to see how skills can grow over the year.
If you like any of those chosen this week, be sure to visit the photographers stream, they will be happy you did.
