POTW 21-28 March 2010
It falls to me this week to select three photos for Pic of the Week. Practically impossible. Even from the reduced set of things that other members of the community nominated (Hey! Go nominate your faves in our POTW thread, it's still an impossible task to decide. But in the end, decisions have to be made. Here are the three chosen as the Photos of the Week, if you like them please click through to view them large and leave a comment.

Congratulations Blue Square Thing!
Congratulations to Ian! He celebrates both his birthday and completion of his 365 project this week! Ian's 365 coincides with the year between two birthdays, and he attributes the project to a midlife crisis, which seems to be a good enough reason as any to take a photo a day for a year! I enjoyed exploring his project set, it is filled with photos of gorgeous scenic landscapes, lovely child portraits, and colorful photos of objects. Ian participates in different scavenger hunts in flickr, and took many memorable, creative shots for their item categories.
Below are three of Ian's favorite photos from his project, and in his own words, why he choose them:
I love beaches and Denmark and this is a Danish beach from a lovely week away last May.
from a museum in Sweden, so is another traveling pic. And it's a nice shot - not technically great, but quite interesting.
I cook, and who doesn't like fish and chips. Shame I didn't move the metal spoon thing though...
Congratulations again to Ian! He has decided to continue on with a second 365 Project. We wish him luck as he with his new project and look forward to seeing it unfold in the 365 Community! Below are his final shot of the project, two admin favorites and a slideshow of his completed project.

Congratulations Julie***!
Congratulations to Julie! She completed her 365 Project this week! Her photostream is a wonderful place to visit. Her photos are creatively composed and utilize inspired angles. Julie wrote a beautiful description about her experience with the project to accompany her final photo and she included these words:
I learned that an emotion is the hardest but most beautiful thing to portray in a picture. I learned that a boring subject can make an interesting picture, but that an interesting object can easily make a very boring picture.
After taking a look at her photostream, I'm sure you'll agree she accomplished this and more. She has a knack for finding wonderful ways to photograph everyday items. She also took many lovely emotional shots, including wonderful portraits of her son, who she says inspired her in so many ways.
Congratulations again to Julie! We are looking forward to seeing what she does next with her photography skills! Below are three of her favorite photos, her final photo of her project, and a slideshow of her complete 365 set. Enjoy!

Congratulations Sara in Montréal!
Congratulations to Sara! She completed her 365 Project this week! Her project set is a wonderful place to visit, it is filled with wonderful colors and details, and photos of everyday details artfully presented. Her portraits are lovely and she has taken many great macros. Below are some the photos Sara choose as her favorites, and in her own words, why they are meaningful to her:
Both these pictures would never have won a second look pre-365. They would have been deemed 'bad' and deleted. But the obligation to have at least one shot a day made me reconsider what good is: it's not always synonymous with 'sharp', not anymore. Those two I really like, because of the mood/movement the out of sharpness gives them.
This one is about a lot of things in my 365: the importance of daily objects to the project and trying to acquire some new techniques. This one is the first time I tried short DOF on purpose. And it's the toys and ideas of my little one (modified a bit by the photographer), illustrating all the help she gave me through the year. Plus it's the only one that made it as a weekly picture in the 365 Community!
This one is actually a contender. But it has a lot of different meanings to me. First, it's an illustration of my architectural shots. And the very architect who drew this house was my step-dad, it was the very last he did. I don't remember what's the POD for that day and why this one didn't make the final cut. I could have chosen another to illustrate this point, but this one was chosen by a friend of mine to illustrate some of their funding tools at the reinsertion house where she works.
This one, and the last one, are for my experimentation with GIMP. Except for some framing. contrasts and saturation, including black and white I did not work that much on post processing. Picassa is really my basic tool. But sometimes, because of an error I made with the white balance, or when I want diptych or triptych, I resorted to GIMP.
Congratulations again to Sara! We're looking forward to seeing her shots as an 365 alumni (and some new baby photos soon!) in the 365 Community pool. Below are her final photo (be sure to visit and read her lovely description that accompanies it), an admin fave and the slideshow of her completed project.

Windows and Doors
Windows and doors can add wonderful light and/or a great sense of intrigue to a photo. Here are some stunning windows and door images that I came across tonight as I explored the 365 Community pool.

Body Parts
Not too unlike Dr Frankenstein, we've been collecting body parts for this week's theme. Don't forget to stop by the group every Sunday to find out what the new theme is. It's entirely optional but can help you out on those uninspired days.
